五年（1057年）九月、頼義は奥州にて安倍頼時と合戦した。頼時は矢に当たって死んだ。貞任は残党を集めて河崎の柵に立てこもった。或いは河堰城とも言う。十一月、頼義は千百余人を率いて貞任を攻めた。貞任は四千人を率いて防戦した。折しも風雪が激しく、官軍は兵糧が尽きて大敗し、死者は数百人に及んだ。頼義はその嫡男義家、郎従の藤原景通、大宅光任、清原貞広、藤原範季、藤原則明とわずか七騎に討ち減らされ、大軍に包囲された。義家は時に二十歳ばかり、強弓の精兵で、敵を射殺すこと甚だ多かった。光任らは命を軽んじて防戦した。敵は戦いに疲れ...

In the fifth year (1057), ninth month, Yoriyoshi fought against Abe no Yoritoki in Ōshū. Yoritoki was struck by an arrow and died. Sadatō gathered the remaining forces and fortified himself in the Kawasaki stockade, also called Kawai Castle. In the eleventh month, Yoriyoshi led over 1,100 men to attack Sadatō. Sadatō defended with 4,000 men. At that time, fierce wind and snow raged, the imperial army's provisions were exhausted, and they suffered a great defeat with several hundred dead.
