On the fifth day of the ninth month, Sadato himself led over eight thousand men and came to fight. Seeing this, Takenori said, "His coming out of the castle to fight means victory for our side." Yoriyoshi agreed, saying "Indeed so," and together with Takenori encouraged all the armies and engaged in battle. From the hour of the horse (noon) until the hour of the cock (around 6 PM), Yoshiie and his younger brother Yoshitsuna courageously advanced and attacked, so Sadato was defeated in battle and retreated to the Iwai River. As the government forces continued their attack, Sadato fled into the mansion at Koromogawa. On the sixth day, Yoriyoshi broke through the barrier at Koromogawa. Sadato hid in the stockade at Tori-no-umi. On the eleventh day, the government forces attacked Tori-no-umi. Many of Sadato's soldiers were killed in various places, and they fortified themselves in the stockade at Kuriyagawa. On the fourteenth day, they pressed toward Kuriyagawa. On the sixteenth day, they fought all day and all night, with many casualties on both the attacking side and within the castle. On the seventeenth day, Sadato...
