現代語訳
この人は宇治に閑居して、訪れる者に昔の物語をさせて、これを書き集めて草子とした。宇治大納言の物語として、今に伝わっている。
二月七日、前関白藤原頼通が薨去した。歳八十三。同じ頃、その姉である上東門院彰子も崩御した。歳八十七。一条天皇の后であったので、当今の曾祖母である。
二年九月、関白藤原教通が薨去した。歳八十。十月、左大臣藤原師実が関白となった。十二月、春日行幸があった。
三年十月、嵯峨野へ遊猟に行かれた。大井川の紅葉の御歌がある。

This person lived in retirement in Uji, and had visitors tell him stories of old times, which he compiled into a collection of tales. Known as the Tales of the Uji Dainagon, they are transmitted to this day.
On the 7th day of the 2nd month, Former Regent Fujiwara no Yorimichi died at the age of eighty-three. Around the same time, his elder sister Jōtōmon-in Shōshi also passed away at the age of eighty-seven. As she had been Empress to Emperor Ichijō, she was the great-grandmother of the current emperor.
In the 9th month of the 2nd year, Regent Fujiwara no Norimitsu died at the age of eighty. In the 10th month, Sadaijin Fujiwara no Morozane became regent. In the 12th month, there was an imperial visit to Kasuga.
In the 10th month of the 3rd year, the emperor went hunting at Sagano. There is an imperial poem about the autumn leaves of the Ōi River.
In the 1st month of Jōryaku 1 (1077), there were imperial visits to Iwashimizu, Kamo, Hirano, and Ōharano shrines.
