Emperor Horikawa The second son of [Emperor] Shirakawa. His personal name was Yoshihito. His mother was called Chūgū Kenshi, the daughter of Udaijin Minamoto no Akifusa, who was adopted and sent to court by Kampaku Fujiwara no Morozane. He was born in Jōryaku 2 (1078). In the 11th month of Ōtoku 3 (1086), he received the abdication from Shirakawa and ascended the throne. At that time he was eight years old. Morozane served as regent.
