また、この帝の御悩みの時、源義家が内裏に参候して鳴弦して邪気を鎮めたと言い伝えられるのは、この時のことであろうか。
永長元年、関白師通が従一位に叙されて、左大臣俊房の上位に位した。この年の夏、洛中に田楽という者が流行して、貴賤を問わず皆が見物した。院の御所へも召されて御覧になったという。八月、上皇が出家された。隆命が戒師となった。これより白河法皇と称する。この以後も院中にて政務をお聞きになった。
承徳元年正月、大納言源経信が太宰府にて卒去した。年齢八十二歳。四月、祇園に行幸があった。十月、関白師通の館へ行幸があった。
承徳二年七月、法勝寺に行幸があった。九月、中納言大江匡房が大宰権帥に任じられて下向した。故に匡房を江帥と呼ぶ。
康和元年正月、法皇の子である仁和寺の御室覚行に親王宣下があった。

Also, it is said that when this emperor was suffering from illness, Minamoto no Yoshiie attended at the imperial palace and performed the ritual of bowstring twanging (meigen) to ward off evil spirits - perhaps this refers to this occasion.
In Eichō 1, Regent Moromichi was elevated to the First Rank and ranked above Minister of the Left Toshifusa. In the summer of this year, dengaku performers became popular in the capital, and people of all social classes came to watch them. They were even summoned to perform at the Retired Emperor's palace for his viewing. In the eighth month, the Retired Emperor took Buddhist vows, with Ryūmyō serving as his ordination master. From this time he was called the Shirakawa Cloistered Emperor. Even after this, he continued to conduct government affairs from his cloistered residence.
In the first month of Jōtoku 1, Major Counselor Minamoto no Tsunenobu died at Dazaifu at the age of eighty-two. In the fourth month, there was an imperial visit to Gion. In the tenth month, there was an imperial visit to Regent Moromichi's mansion.
In the seventh month of Jōtoku 2, there was an imperial visit to Hōshōji temple. In the ninth month, Middle Counselor Ōe no Masafusa was appointed Deputy Governor-General of Dazaifu and departed for his post. Therefore Masafusa is called Gōsotsu.
In the first month of Kōwa 1, Prince Kakugyō, the Cloistered Emperor's son who was the omuro of Ninnaji temple, received imperial prince status.
