栖山まで競い来たって、すでに入洛しようとした。勅使を遣わされて宥められるけれども聞かない。これによって源為義を遣わして、衆徒を防がせた。衆徒は大勢といえども、為義に破られて帰った。為義は時に十八歳、その勧賞によって左衛門尉となった。総じてこの頃は、山門・南都の僧がはなはだ奢って、武士のようであった。ややもすれば朝廷を恨み、あるいは日吉の神輿を振り、あるいは春日の神木を捧げて、京へ入って嗷訴することが多かった。
二年十一月、法皇の白河阿弥陀堂の供養が行われた。天皇が行幸し、院の別当参議藤原為房が正三位に叙せられた。
三年四月、内大臣源雅実が右大臣となった。関白忠実の子である大納言忠通が内大臣に任ぜられた。時に十九歳。

They came competing as far as Suyama, already intending to enter the capital. Although imperial messengers were sent to pacify them, they would not listen. Therefore, Minamoto no Tameyoshi was dispatched to prevent the monk-soldiers from advancing. Although the monk-soldiers were numerous, they were defeated by Tameyoshi and returned. Tameyoshi was eighteen years old at the time, and as a reward for his service, he became Saemon-no-jō. Generally speaking, around this time, the monks of the mountain monasteries and the southern capital (Nara) were extremely arrogant and behaved like warriors. At the slightest provocation, they would resent the court, sometimes carrying the sacred palanquins of Hiyoshi, or raising the sacred trees of Kasuga, entering Kyoto to make violent protests.
In the second year, eleventh month, the memorial service for the retired emperor's Shirakawa Amida Hall was performed. The emperor made an imperial visit, and Fujiwara no Tamefusa, consultant and administrator of the retired emperor's office, was promoted to Senior Third Rank.
In the third year, fourth month, Interior Minister Minamoto no Masazane became Right Minister. Tadamichi, son of Kampaku Tadazane and Major Counselor, was appointed Interior Minister at the age of nineteen.
In the fifth year, fifth month, there was a monk in Ōshū who called himself Minamoto no Yoshichika Hōshi and [disrupted] the province
