[Yorinaga] adopted and had her enter the imperial court, where she became empress. In the sixth month, Teishi, daughter of Major Counselor Fujiwara no Yukimichi, was adopted by Regent Tadamichi and entered the court, becoming chūgū (secondary empress). The relationship between the brothers Tadamichi and Yorinaga was already strained, and from this point they competed even more fiercely for authority. However, the emperor was always close to the chūgū and distant from the empress's court. In the eighth month, Right Minister Saneyuki was appointed Chancellor. Interior Minister Masasada was appointed Right Minister. Major Counselor Sanenō was appointed Interior Minister. Empress Takō was Sanenō's granddaughter (marginal note: Kinnō was Sanenō's son). In the ninth month, Tadamichi became氏長者 (head of the Fujiwara clan). In the twelfth month, Tadamichi resigned as regent and became kampaku (chancellor-regent). This year, Minamoto no Yoshikuni went down to his villa in Ashikaga, Shimotsuke Province. He was the third son of Yoshiie and the ancestor of both the Nitta and Ashikaga families.
In the first year of Ninpei, first month, Left Minister Yorinaga was granted armed retainers and became head of the Fujiwara clan, taking charge of the Great Council of State.
