[Yoshinaka] wielded rebellious authority as he pleased, troubled the cloistered emperor, and committed extremely heinous acts of evil. When Yoritomo heard of this in the east, he sent his brothers Kaba-no-kanja Noriyori and Kurō Yoshitsune with sixty thousand horsemen to march on the capital and defeat Yoshinaka. Although Yoshinaka tried to resist at Uji and Seta, Sasaki Takatsuna and Kajiwara Kagesuye, who followed Yoshitsune, crossed the Uji River, and Hatakeyama Shigetada followed suit and won the battle. Yoshitsune quickly entered the capital and guarded the cloistered emperor's palace. Therefore, Yoshinaka fled the capital and fought repeatedly in the vicinity of Seta. All his retainers were killed, and he died at Awazu Plain, struck by a stray arrow at age thirty-one. Imai Kanehira also died fighting at the same place. Higuchi Kanemitsu had been in Kawachi trying to hunt down Yukiie, but when he heard this news, he returned to the capital and surrendered, yet was sentenced to death by beheading. In the same month, Regent Moroie was dismissed, and Motonichi became regent again. While Kiso had been committing his evil acts, the Taira had pacified much of the western provinces, and at Ichi-no-[tani] in Settsu Province
