思うがままに逆威を振るい、法皇を悩ませ、悪逆はなはだしいことを関東にて頼朝が聞き及んで、その弟である蒲冠者範頼と九郎義経に六万騎を添えて上洛させ、義仲を討たせた。義仲は宇治・勢田にて防ごうとしたが、義経に従った佐々木高綱、梶原景季が宇治川を渡り、畠山重忠が続いて戦い勝ったので、義経は早く上洛して法皇の御所を警固した。そのため義仲は都を落ちて、勢多の辺りで度々合戦し、郎等は皆討たれ、粟津の原にて流れ矢に当たって死んだ。年三十一。今井の兼平も同じ場所で討ち死にした。樋口の兼光は行家を討とうとして河内にいたが、これを聞いて帰京し、降参したけれども斬罪に処せられた。
