これより時政の権勢は日々に盛んになって、肩を並べる者はなかった。その子義時は智謀があって、その勢いを父から受け継いだ。同月二十日、頼家は左中将に転任した。同二十六日、頼家は頼朝の遺跡を継いで、家人・郎従等をして諸国の守護を奉行させるべき旨が宣下された。二月、釈奠並びに大原野の祭が停止された。頼朝の穢れによるものである。これにより鶴岡の祭も一箇月延期された。
四月、頼家は営中の郭外に新たに問注所を設置した。三善康信を執事として訴訟を裁いた。この後、頼家が政務に倦んで、時政・広元・康信、並びに三浦義澄、八田知家、和田義盛、梶原景時、比企能員、藤九郎盛長等が相談して大小事を執行した。掃部頭藤原親能を京都の奉行とした。小笠原弥太郎、比企三郎、同弥四郎、中野五郎の四人が頼家に近侍した。

On the 20th of the same month, Yoriie was transferred to the position of Sachūjō (Assistant Middle Captain). On the 26th of the same month, Yoriie succeeded to Yoritomo's legacy, and an imperial decree was issued that he should have his retainers and followers serve as military governors (shugo) in the various provinces. In the second month, the Sekiten ceremony and the festival of Ōharano were suspended due to the ritual pollution from Yoritomo's death. Because of this, the Tsurugaoka festival was also postponed for one month.
In the fourth month, Yoriie established a new Monchūjo (Board of Inquiry) outside the compound of his residence. He appointed Miyoshi Yasunobu as administrator to decide lawsuits. After this, as Yoriie grew weary of government affairs, Tokimasa, Hiroto, Yasunobu, along with Miura Yoshizumi, Hatta Tomohie, Wada Yoshimori, Kajiwara Kagetoki, Hiki Yoshikazu, and Tōkurō Morinaga consulted together to execute matters both great and small. Kammon no Kami Fujiwara no Chikayoshi was made administrator for Kyoto affairs. Four men - Ogasawara Yatarō, Hiki Saburō, the same Yashirō, and Nakano Gorō - served as close attendants to Yoriie.
