Ichiman was the maternal grandson of Hiki Yoshikazu. Yoshikazu, thinking to seize power for himself alone, used this dying wish as an opportunity and secretly plotted to destroy Sanetomo and the entire Hōjō clan. In the ninth month, Yoshikazu secretly petitioned Yoriie, plotting to destroy the entire Hōjō family and allow Ichiman alone to peacefully inherit the family headship. Masako overheard this from behind a shoji screen, was shocked, and told Tokimasa. Tokimasa, using Buddhist ceremonies as a pretext, summoned Yoshikazu and had Amano Tōkage and Nitta Tadatsune kill him. Yoshikazu's son Munetomo, along with their clan members, barricaded themselves in Ichiman's residence, the Kogosho. Tokimasa, claiming it was Masako's command, sent military forces including Yoshitoki, Yasutoki, Hatakeyama Shigetada, and Wada Yoshimori to attack them. The clan set fire and died in the flames. Ichiman also died by fire in the same place. All their associates were killed. Yoriie was greatly enraged and ordered Wada Yoshimori, Nitta Tadatsune and others to attack Tokimasa, but Yoshimori did not comply.
