現代語訳
宋朝の陳和卿がやって来て、鎌倉に赴き、実朝に謁見した。同月、実朝が中納言に任じられた。九月、義時が広元を通じて、実朝が年若くして官位がしきりに昇進することを諫めた。実朝は聞き入れなかった。十一月、実朝に渡唐の志があり、陳和卿に命じて大船を造らせた。翌年その船が完成したので、由比ヶ浦へ出て試しに漕いでみたところ、舟が重くて浮くことができず、ついに朽ち損じてしまった。
五年正月、平野・大原野へ行幸があった。六月、阿闍梨公暁が鶴岡八幡宮の別当に補せられた。十一月、北野・松尾への行幸があった。十二月、北条右京大夫義時が陸奥守に任じられ、時房が相模守に遷任した。同月、西園寺大納言藤原公経が後鳥羽院の勅勘を蒙り、出仕を止められた。程なく許された。

Chen Heka (Chen Heqing), a minister from the Song dynasty, came and proceeded to Kamakura to have an audience with Sanetomo. In the same month, Sanetomo was appointed to the position of Middle Counselor. In the ninth month, Yoshitoki, through Hiromoto, admonished Sanetomo for his frequent promotions in court rank despite his young age. Sanetomo would not listen. In the eleventh month, Sanetomo had aspirations to travel to Tang China and commanded Chen Heka to build a large ship. The following year, when the ship was completed, they took it out to Yuigahama beach for a trial voyage, but the vessel was too heavy to float and eventually rotted away.
In the first month of the fifth year, there was an imperial visit to Hirano and Oharano. In the sixth month, Acharya Kugyo was appointed as the head administrator of Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine. In the eleventh month, there was an imperial visit to Kitano and Matsunoo. In the twelfth month, Hōjō Ukyo-no-taifu Yoshitoki was appointed Governor of Mutsu, and Tokifusa was transferred to the position of Governor of Sagami. In the same month, Saionji Major Counselor Fujiwara no Kintsune incurred the imperial displeasure of Retired Emperor Go-Toba and was forbidden from court attendance. He was pardoned shortly thereafter.
