条時房が上洛し、頼経を連れて鎌倉へ向かい、主君として仰いだ。武臣たちは皆拝礼して従った。頼経はわずか二歳であったため、政子が名代として政治を聞いた。天下の事は大小を問わず、すべて義時の計らいであった。
頼朝の姉は中納言能保に嫁ぎ、その生んだ娘が後京極良経に嫁いで道家を生んだ。道家は西園寺公経の娘を娶って頼経を生んだ。この由緒により、少し頼朝のゆかりであるとして頼経を迎えたと聞こえる。このよしみにより、西園寺家と北条家は親睦を深めた。
この頃、駿河国に阿野冠者時元という者がいた。頼朝の甥で全成の子であることから、関東の主となろうという志があると聞こえたので、義時は武士を遣わして時元を殺した。

Kitajō Tokifusa went to the capital and brought Yoritsune to Kamakura, where he was revered as lord. All the warrior vassals paid their respects and followed him. Since Yoritsune was only two years old, Masako acted as his representative in conducting government affairs. All matters of the realm, great and small, were handled by Yoshitoki's arrangements.
Yoritomo's elder sister married Middle Counselor Yoshiyasu, and the daughter she bore married Gokōgoku Yoshitsune and gave birth to Michiie. Michiie married the daughter of Saionji Kintsune and had Yoritsune. Due to this lineage, it is said that Yoritsune was welcomed because he had some connection to Yoritomo. Through this relationship, the Saionji and Hōjō families developed close ties.
Around this time, in Suruga Province, there was a man called Ano Kanja Tokimoto. Being Yoritomo's nephew and the son of Zenjō, when it was heard that he harbored ambitions to become lord of the Kantō, Yoshitoki sent warriors and killed Tokimoto.
