However, after Emperor Ōjin's death, the crown prince (Uji no Wakairatsuko) yielded the throne to Ō-sasaki. Ō-sasaki said, "How could I, even though I am the elder brother, go against my father's will?" and refused to accept it. They yielded to each other for three years, and the imperial throne remained undecided. The crown prince resided in Uji, and Ō-sasaki resided in Naniwa. The people's tribute was brought to both places, but each yielded to the other and would not accept it. The crown prince declared, "Rather than live and trouble the realm," and took his own life. When Ō-sasaki rushed to see him in alarm, the crown prince revived, they exchanged words, and then he finally died. Because of this, Ō-sasaki finally ascended the throne. This is Emperor Nintoku.
