More than five hundred retainers also perished. The remaining partisans were killed at various locations. Tokiyori reported these events to Kyoto, and through Shigetoki, informed Saionji Saneuji. Around this time, Michie, having secretly made an agreement with Mitsumura regarding the matter of the former shogun Yoritsune's ascent to the capital, was not on good terms with the Kantō. Saneuji, on the other hand, deepened his relations with the Hōjō even further. In the seventh month, Hōjō Shigetoki, Governor of Sagami, returned from Rokuhara to Kamakura at Tokiyori's invitation. Tokiyori thereupon consulted with him on all matters, and Shigetoki became Renshō and joint regent. Shigetoki changed his title from Governor of Sagami to Governor of Mutsu, while Tokiyori took the title of Governor of Sagami. Shigetoki's eldest son Nagatoki was stationed at Rokuhara to oversee the administration of the Kinai region and the western provinces.
