In the second year [of Hōji, 1248], on the seventeenth day of the first month, Minamoto no Michimitsu resigned from his position as Grand Minister of State (Daijō-daijin). He passed away the following day, at the age of sixty-two. In the tenth month, the Retired Emperor Go-Saga made an imperial excursion to Uji to view the autumn foliage. At this time, since all matters of national importance were being handled by the warrior houses, the Retired Emperor passed his time making excursions to various places for diversion. As the reigning Emperor was still very young, he spent his days in nothing more than children's play.
In the first year of Kenchō [1249], in the second month, the Kan'in Imperial Palace was destroyed by fire. In the third month, more than half of the capital [Kyoto] was consumed by fire (a great conflagration).
In the second year of Kenchō [1250], in the third month, there was an imperial pilgrimage to Kumano. In the fourth month, Fujiwara no Saneki resigned from his position as Minister of the Center (Naidaijin). Koga no Dainagon Minamoto no Tomonari was appointed Minister of the Center. In the fifth month, the Shogun Yoritsugu read the Teihan [Imperial Model]. Kiyohara no Noritaka served as his scholarly attendant (jikō). Tokiyori made a copy of the Jōgan Seiyō [Essentials of Government of the Zhenguan Era] and presented it [to the Shogun]. In the twelfth month, Minamoto no Tomonari resigned from his position as Minister of the Center. Dainagon Fujiwara no Michinaga was appointed Minister of the Center.
