…was the maternal grandson of Tokimasa. Being incomparable to other warriors in every respect, the Hōjō clan held him in high regard. Takauji was a descendant of Yoshiuji. In the twelfth month, Munetaka summoned Minamoto no Chikayuki, the Governor of Kawachi, and had him lecture on *The Tale of Genji* (*Genji Monogatari*). Since all matters of governance were handled at Tokiyori's discretion, Munetaka passed his days in the pursuits of Japanese poetry (waka) and kemari (court football).
In the third month of the seventh year, there was an imperial pilgrimage to Kumano. The Inspector of the Three Mountains (Sanza Kengyō), the Dharma Prince Kakujin, served as the leading guide (sendachi). This was the first time a prince of the blood served as a leading guide.
