Fuyutada was appointed Inner Minister (Naidaijin).
In the fourth month of the third year (of Bun'ei, 1266), a ceremony was held for the reconstruction and dedication (zōtai kuyō) of Rengeōin (Sanjūsangendō). The reigning Emperor proceeded in imperial visit (gyōkō), and the Retired Emperor (Ichiin) and the New Retired Emperor (Shin'in) also paid their visits (miyuki). The assembled officials attended in full ceremonial attendance, and the rituals were conducted with great solemnity.
In the sixth month, Shōgun Munetaka, using a poetry gathering as a pretext, assembled his personal attendants and secretly plotted to strike down Hōjō Tokimune and take control of the realm himself. Feigning illness, he had the Matsudono Sōjō (Buddhist Prelate) Yoshimoto serve as his exorcist-healer (genza), keeping him constantly in close attendance. As the affair gradually came to light, Yoshimoto fled in haste, retreated to Mount Kōya, and died there by fasting.
In the seventh month, Tokimune, Masamura, along with Hōjō Sanetoki and Akita-no-shiro-no-suke Yasumori, conferred and deliberated on deposing Munetaka. Kamakura was thrown into turmoil. Hōjō Nakatsukasa Noritoki had sympathized with Munetaka, but was restrained by Tokimune and desisted. Munetaka was ultimately relieved of his office and returned to the capital (Kyoto). Retired Emperor Go-Saga refused to receive him in audience for some time. The Minister of the Left of Nakamikado... (continues on next page)
