...Saneo's daughter, Yoshiko. She was given the title of the Empress Dowager of Gokyōgoku.
She was born in the twelfth month during the fourth year of Bun'ei. In the first month of the eleventh year of the same era, (the Emperor) received the abdication. He ascended the throne in the third month. He was then eight years of age. The regent (kampaku) Kujō Tadaie served as regent (sesshō). At this time, Go-Fukakusa was referred to as the "Hon'in" (the Principal Retired Emperor), and Kameyama was called the "Shin'in" (the New Retired Emperor).
In the second month, the former Minister of the Right of Saionji, Kinmoto, passed away at the age of fifty-five. In the same month, the former Chancellor (Daijō-daijin) of Tokudaiji, Saneki, passed away at the age of seventy-two.
In the third month, two Mongol commanders set out with a force of three hundred large vessels, three hundred fast vessels, and three hundred small vessels, with the intent of attacking Japan. This was because, despite having sent envoys with diplomatic letters on several occasions, Japan had returned no reply. As a result, prayers and rituals were conducted at various shrines by the Imperial Court. The Kantō (shogunate) issued orders to Tsukushi (Kyushu) and ensured that military preparedness was maintained without lapse.
In the sixth month, Tadaie relinquished the position of regent, and the Minister of the Left of Ichijō, Ietsune, became regent.
In the seventh month, the former shogun Prince Munetaka passed away in Kyoto at the age of thirty-three.
In the tenth month, Mongol warships arrived off the island of Tsushima.
