He was arrested and subjected to interrogation. From this, the investigation intensified, and there were reports that the affair had originated from the intentions of the Retired Emperor Kameyama (Naka-no-in). Kinhira, the son of Saionji Sanekane and Chamberlain of the Middle Palace (Chūgū-no-daibu), upon hearing this, proposed to the Senior Retired Emperor (Go-Fukakusa): "The imperial succession has changed, and because the current Emperor ascended to the throne through the arrangement of the warrior house (Kamakura), the Retired Emperor Kameyama (Naka-no-in) and the Newly Retired Emperor (Go-Uda) must have resented this and secretly issued orders to Tameyori. We should transfer Naka-no-in to Rokuhara and, after deliberation, sentence him to exile to a distant province." However, this proposal received no imperial approval. Naka-no-in and the Newly Retired Emperor were greatly alarmed and sent written oaths to Kamakura to express their apologies. The warrior house therefore took no exceptional punitive action, and the matter was settled. In the same month, Minamoto no Motogu resigned from his position as Grand Minister of State (Dajō-daijin). In the fourth month, Saionji Sanekane resigned from his position as Minister of the Interior (Naidaijin). In the sixth month, Ōinomikado Dainagon Nobitsugu was appointed Minister of the Interior. In the ninth month, Naka-no-in (Kameyama) took the tonsure at the age of forty-one, took the religious name Kongōkaku, and entered Zenrinji Temple.
