民間の愁苦を問う。これより年々使者を遣わす。その使者が赴いた先で悪事があったが、貞時の知らぬところであった。出羽国羽黒の山伏が来て直訴したことにより、その使者の悪事を糾明して、罪に処した者が百人余りに及んだ。その後、諸国よく治まり、人々はみな善政を称えた。
六年二月、中納言藤原為兼、隠謀の噂があるにより、武家よりこれを捕らえて佐渡へ流す。六月、久我内大臣通雄、官を辞す。西園寺大納言藤原公衡、内大臣に任ず。
七月、主上（伏見天皇）、位を太子胤仁に譲りて、伏見殿に遷られる。持明院殿とも申す。年号は正応五年・永仁六年合わせて、在位十一年。

[The envoys] inquired into the hardships and sufferings of the common people. From this point forward, envoys were dispatched every year. At the destinations where these envoys traveled, misconduct had occurred without Sadatoki's knowledge. When a mountain ascetic (yamabushi) from Mount Haguro in Dewa Province came to lodge a direct appeal, the misconduct of the envoys was investigated and brought to light, and more than one hundred persons were punished for their crimes. Thereafter, the various provinces were well governed, and all the people praised the benevolent administration.
In the sixth year (of Einin, 1298), second month, Chūnagon (Middle Counselor) Fujiwara no Tamenori was arrested by the military government (bakufu) due to rumors of a secret conspiracy, and was exiled to Sado Island. In the sixth month, Kuga Naidaijin (Minister of the Center) Michio resigned from his position. Saionji Dainagon (Senior Counselor) Fujiwara no Kinhira was appointed Naidaijin.
In the seventh month, His Majesty (Emperor Fushimi) abdicated in favor of Crown Prince Tanenari and retired to the Fushimi Palace. He was also known as the Jōmyōin-dono. Counting the reign periods of Shōō (five years) and Einin (six years) together, his reign lasted eleven years.
