安康天皇 允恭天皇の子である。兄の太子を押しのけて即位した。母は忍坂大中姫といい、二岐皇子の娘である。大和国の石上に都を立て、穴穂宮に居住された。天皇の叔父を大草香皇子という。讒言により、天皇の心に叶わないことがあったため、兵を起こして大草香を殺した。その妾の中蒂姫を内裏へ召して寵愛された。中蒂姫が大草香のもとで生んだ子を眉輪王という。母の寵愛により、同じく内裏へ出入りしていた。しかし天皇を恨む心があったので、眉輪王は天皇を憎んでいた。ある時天皇が姫の膝を枕として臥していた時、眉輪王が忍び寄って来て、天皇を殺し奉った。在位三年、享年五十六歳。

Emperor Ankō was a son of Emperor Ingyō. He pushed aside his elder brother, the crown prince, and ascended to the throne. His mother was called Oshisaka no Ōnakatsuhime, daughter of Prince Futamata. He established his capital at Isonokami in Yamato Province and resided at Anaho Palace. The emperor's uncle was called Prince Ōkusaka. Due to slander, there were matters that did not please the emperor's heart, so he raised troops and killed Ōkusaka. He summoned Ōkusaka's concubine, Nakashi-hime, to the palace and showed her great favor. The child that Nakashi-hime had borne while with Ōkusaka was called Prince Mayuwa. Through his mother's favor, he also had access to the palace. However, since he harbored resentment toward the emperor, Prince Mayuwa hated the emperor. One time when the emperor was lying with the princess's knee as his pillow, Prince Mayuwa crept up and killed the emperor. He reigned for three years and died at age fifty-six.
