**後醍醐天皇** 諱（いみな）は尊治（たかはる）。後宇多天皇の第二皇子である。母は談天門院（たつてんもんいん）藤原忠子。花山院の内大臣・師継（もろつぐ）の娘であるが、実際には参議・忠継の娘である。天皇は当初、大宰帥（だざいのそち）に任じられたため、「帥の宮」と申し上げた。花園院が即位された時、武家の取り計らいによって東宮（皇太子）に立てられた。
文保二年（1318年）二月、即位。御年三十一歳。二条道平が関白であった。後宇多法皇が政務を執り行われた。鎌倉の将軍は守邦親王であった。執権は北条相模守高時であった。三月、後二条院の皇子・邦良が東宮に立てられた。六月、近衛左大臣経平が薨去された。八月、三条公茂（きんしげ）が内大臣を辞した。その父は……

### The 95th Sovereign
**Emperor Go-Daigo** His personal name (imina) was Takaharu. He was the second son of Emperor Go-Uda. His mother was Tatsu-Tenmon-in, Fujiwara no Tadako, daughter of Morotsugu, Minister of the Interior of the Kazanin family — though in fact she was the daughter of Counselor (sangi) Tadatsugu. As the Emperor was initially appointed to the post of Dazai no Sochi (Governor-General of the Dazai府), he was referred to as "Sochi no Miya" (Prince of the Dazai). When Emperor Hanazono ascended to the throne, Go-Daigo was established as Crown Prince through the arrangement of the military government (bakufu).
In the second month of Bunpō 2 (1318), he ascended to the throne at the age of thirty-one. Nijō Michihira served as Regent (kanpaku). The Retired Emperor Go-Uda (hōō) administered state affairs. The shogun in Kamakura was Prince Morikuni. The regent (shikken) of the Hōjō clan was Hōjō Sagami no Kami Takatoki.
