（後醍醐天皇は鎌倉を謀ろうとする）志をお持ちであった。
元弘元年（1331年）二月、右大臣藤原基嗣が左大臣となった。久我長通が右大臣となった。西園寺季衡が内大臣（内府）となった。
三月、北山へ行幸があり、花見の御遊びがあった。
八月、関東（幕府）の使節二人が上洛した。主上（後醍醐天皇）および尊雲法親王を流罪に処するためであった。主上は恐れ、ひそかに笠置山へ行幸された。万里小路中納言藤房、その弟・季房らが供奉した。花山院大納言師賢は、天子のふりをして偽り、叡山（比叡山）に登って兵を集めた。六波羅より兵を遣わして叡山を攻めた。この間に主上は笠置へお入りになった。師賢も笠置へ参った。主上は河内国の武士・楠木正成を召して、軍事を任じられた。正成は河内へ帰り、義兵を挙げて赤坂山に籠もった。
九月、関東の大軍が笠置を攻め破った。主上は山を（逃れられた）……

In the second month of Genkō 1 (1331), the Minister of the Right Fujiwara no Motetsugu became Minister of the Left. Koga Nagatōri became Minister of the Right. Saionji Suehira became Naidaijin (Minister of the Center, referred to here as Naifu).
In the third month, there was an imperial visit to Kitayama, and a flower-viewing banquet was held.
In the eighth month, two envoys from the Kantō (the Kamakura shogunate) came up to the capital. Their purpose was to exile the Emperor and Prince Sonun (Son'un Hosshinno). The Emperor, alarmed, secretly made his way to Mount Kasagi. The Middle Counselor of the Madenokōji, Fujiwara no Fujifusa, and his younger brother Suefusa, among others, accompanied him. The Major Counselor of the Kazan'in, Morōkata (Morokata), feigned to be the Emperor and climbed Mount Hiei (Eizan) to gather troops. Forces were dispatched from Rokuhara to attack Mount Hiei. In the meantime, the Emperor entered Kasagi. Morōkata too proceeded to Kasagi. The Emperor summoned Kusunoki Masashige, a warrior from Kawachi Province, and entrusted him with military affairs. Masashige returned to Kawachi, raised a righteous army, and entrenched himself at Mount Akasaka.
In the ninth month, the great army of the Kantō attacked and broke through Kasagi. The Emperor fled the mountain…
