However, because he had been treated with disfavor by the Hōjō, his household had fallen into insignificance; yet now, riding the wave of momentum, he had achieved great merit. His Majesty (Go-Daigo) had already been restored to the throne. Takatsukasa Fuyunori was dismissed from the position of regent (Kampaku), and Imadegawa Kanetsune was dismissed from the position of Grand Minister of State (Daijō-daijin) and demoted to the rank of former Minister of the Right. There were many others who were also stripped of their offices. Among them, Minister of the Right Suehira and Minister of the Interior (Naidaijin) Minamoto no Michiteru and others, some even shaved their heads (took Buddhist vows). Nijō Michihira was reappointed as Minister of the Left (Sadaijin) and became the head of the Fujiwara clan (Tōshi no Chōja), overseeing all affairs of state. However, the post of regent (Kampaku) was not established, as it was presumably because His Majesty intended to hear state matters himself. Koga Nagateru was reappointed as Minister of the Right, and Tōin Kinkata was reappointed as Minister of the Interior. All those who had been exiled during the Genkō Disturbance returned to the capital. In the same month, Prince Moriyoshi was appointed Seii Taishōgun (Shogun) and entered the capital. (Prince Moriyoshi,) knowing that Takauji commanded great popular support and that he was on a trajectory to ultimately become an enemy of the court, sought to have him killed swiftly. However, His Majesty... [Page ends here — continues on next page]
