（前ページより続き）常陸・下総を賜った。義貞には上野・播磨を賜った。直義には遠江を賜った。義貞の弟・脇屋義助には駿河を賜った。（義貞の）嫡子・義顕には越後を賜った。正成には摂津・河内を賜い、長年には因幡・伯耆を賜った。その余の恩賞もなお多くあった。しかし赤松円心だけは恩賞を賜らなかった。これにより（円心は）朝廷を恨み奉るようになった。
五月、護良親王が関東へ流罪となった。直義がこれを預かり、鎌倉二階堂の牢獄に幽閉した。（これは）継母である准后（藤廉子）が、尊氏兄弟に頼まれて讒言したためである。護良の近臣・法印良忠らは殺された。主上の八の宮・成良親王を征夷大将軍とし、直義を執権として相模守に任ぜられ、鎌倉に居らしめた。
七月、紫宸殿の上に怪鳥が鳴きわたった。隠岐の広有がこれを射た。

[Continued from the previous page] ...Hitachi and Shimōsa (provinces) were granted (to Takauji). To Yoshisada were granted Kōzuke and Harima. To Tadayoshi was granted Tōtōmi. To Yoshisada's younger brother, Wakiya Yoshisuke, was granted Suruga. To (Yoshisada's) eldest son Yoshiaki was granted Echigo. To Masashige were granted Settsu and Kawachi, and to Nagayoshi were granted Inaba and Hōki. There were many other rewards besides. However, Akamatsu Enshin alone received no reward, and on account of this, he came to harbor deep resentment toward the imperial court.
In the fifth month, Prince Moriyoshi (Morinaga) was exiled to the Kantō. Tadayoshi took custody of him and confined him in the prison at Nikaido in Kamakura. This was because his stepmother, the Lady Jugo (Fujiwara no Renshi), had slandered him at the behest of the Takauji brothers. Moriyoshi's close retainer, Hōin Ryōchū and others were killed. His Majesty's eighth prince, Prince Nariyoshi (Narinaga), was appointed Sei'i Taishōgun (Shogun), and Tadayoshi was made Shikken (regent), appointed Governor of Sagami, and installed at Kamakura.
In the seventh month, a strange bird flew crying over the Shishinden (the Ceremonial Hall of the Imperial Palace). Oki no Hirōari shot it down with an arrow.
