（北条）時行もこれに加わった。尊氏の長男・義詮は戦に敗れて、鎌倉を出奔した。
暦応元年正月、顕家・義興らが上洛した。途中、濃州（美濃国）の青野ヶ原にて、尊氏の大将・桃井直常らと合戦した。同月、義貞・義助が杣山より出て、越前府の城を攻め取った。足利高経は逃げて黒丸の城に入った。義貞の勢いは北国において盛んであり、京都を攻める志があった。
二月、顕家が吉野へ赴こうとして、途中の八幡・南都にて高師直・桃井直常らと数度にわたって合戦した。
五月、顕家は戦に敗れて、泉州（和泉国）の阿倍野にて討死した。享年二十一歳。顕家の弟・顕信、ならびに新田義興は八幡に籠った。
六月、師直が八幡を攻め破った。近衛基嗣が関白を辞した。一条左府・経通が関白となった。

In the first month of Ryakuō 1 (1338), Akiie, Yoshioki, and others marched on the capital. Along the way, at Aonogahara in Nōshū (Mino Province), they engaged in battle with Takauji's general Momoi Naōtsune and others. In the same month, Yoshisada and Yoshisuke emerged from Somayama and captured the castle of Echizen-fu. Ashikaga Takatsune fled and took refuge in Kuromaru Castle. Yoshisada's power flourished in the northern provinces, and he harbored ambitions of attacking Kyoto.
In the second month, as Akiie was proceeding toward Yoshino, he fought multiple battles at Yawata and Nanto (Nara) along the way against Kō no Moronao and Momoi Naōtsune and others.
