大いに喜び、顕宗と仁賢を共に迎え取って養子とした。清寧崩御の後、兄なれば仁賢が即位したまえと言えば、仁賢は「我は兄なれども、弟に及ばず。その上、小楯に逢って名を明かすことも、皆弟の所為なり」と言って譲った。これによって、その姉である飯豊皇女がしばらく位につて政を行った。この皇女は一度夫と交わった後、「男女の道すでに知れり」と云って、その後は夫に会することがなかった。皇女が位にあること十月あまりにして崩じた。飯豊天皇と云うとも、一年にだに及ばねば、王代の数に入れず。ここにおいて、大臣大連等が顕宗と仁賢に即位のことを勧めた。兄弟なお互いに譲ると言えども、仁賢が堅く辞退するによって、顕宗が即位し、大和の八釣宮に住まいした。百官皆喜んで仕え奉った。三月

he greatly rejoiced and welcomed both Kenzō and Ninken, adopting them as his sons. After Emperor Seinei's death, when it was said that Ninken should ascend the throne since he was the elder brother, Ninken replied, "Though I am the elder brother, I am inferior to my younger brother. Moreover, meeting Otate and revealing our names was entirely my younger brother's doing," and he yielded the throne to his brother. Because of this, their elder sister, Princess Iitoyo, temporarily assumed the throne and governed. After this princess had relations with a husband once, she declared that she now "knew the way of men and women" and thereafter never met with a husband again. The princess reigned for a little over ten months before she died. Though she is called Emperor Iitoyo, since her reign did not even reach one year, she is not counted among the imperial generations. At this point, the ministers and great ministers urged Kenzō and Ninken to ascend the throne.
