Keigen (Tadayoshi) headed from the northern provinces to the Kantō region and entered Kamakura. In the tenth month, Takauji advanced toward the Kantō region, while Yoshiakira remained as guardian of the capital. In the eleventh month, Takauji encamped at Satta Mountain in Suruga Province. Keigen mustered a great army from the Kantō region and surrounded Takauji. In the twelfth month, Utsunomiya Kimikata and Yakushiji Kimiyoshi and others, responding to Takauji's call, attacked the rear of Satta Mountain. As a result, Keigen suffered a great defeat and surrendered to Takauji. Takauji brought him along and entered Kamakura. Before long, Keigen died of illness—though it is also said that he was harmed by being given poison. During this time, Kyoto had few troops and was in a precarious state. Therefore, Yoshiakira made peace with the Southern Emperor, who feigned acceptance of the agreement.
