Iyanito (弥仁) ascended to the throne. He was fifteen years of age at the time. Since all Three Sacred Treasures had already been transferred to the Southern Court, there were those who questioned whether such an enthronement was proper; however, the warrior clans forcibly carried it out. According to one account, Regent (Kampaku) Nijō Yoshimoto stated that Lord Takauji should serve in place of the Sacred Sword, and that Yoshimoto himself should serve in place of the Sacred Seal, and it was under these arrangements that the imperial succession ceremony (senzo) was conducted. In the ninth month, the era name was changed to Bunna. In the eleventh month, the maternal grandfather of the Emperor, the Grand Counselor (Dainagon) Kinhide, was appointed Minister of the Interior (Naidaijin). In the second year of Bunna (1353), Yamana Tokiuji and his son Moroüji raised a rebellion and joined the Southern Court. This came about because, following Moroüji's distinguished military service at the Battle of Yawata the previous year, he had sought a reward through Sasaki Dōyo, who wielded great influence under Yoshinori (Yoshiakira). Dōyo, however, in his arrogance, refused to grant Moroüji an audience. Angered by this, Moroüji returned to his home province of Hōki and persuaded Tokiuji to raise an army. In the fifth month they departed from Hōki, and in the sixth month, having coordinated with the Southern Court's forces from Yoshino, they marched on the capital. Yoshiakira suffered a defeat,
