（義詮は敗軍し、）主上をお供し奉り、坂本へ落ち延びた。そこからさらに東国へ行幸となった。敵が追い迫ってきたため、道中において道誉の子・秀綱が討ち死にした。主上は細川清氏が背中にお負い申し上げたとのことである。美濃国の垂井に暫く皇居を定めて、義詮がお守り申し上げた。諸国の兵を集めて山名を討とうとしたところ、山名父子は兵力が尽きて伯耆へ帰った。義詮は主上をお守りして都へ還幸なさった。
三年の春、新田義興・脇屋義治が河村の城を出奔し、東国が静まったので、尊氏は畠山国清を基氏の家老として関東を守らせ、尊氏自身は帰洛した。仁木左京大夫頼章を武家の執事職に任じた。義詮をして播磨へ赴かせ、兵を催して山名を討たせた。山名はこれを聞いて、直冬を迎えて大将とした。これにより直冬は南朝方となって、尊氏と（対立することとなった。）

(Yoshiakira suffered a defeat,) accompanied the Emperor, and fled to Sakamoto. From there, an imperial progress was made to the eastern provinces. As the enemy pressed in pursuit, along the way Dōyo's son Hidetsuna was killed in battle. It is said that the Emperor was carried upon the back of Hosokawa Kiyouji. A temporary imperial residence was established at Tarui in Mino Province, where Yoshiakira stood guard over the Emperor. Gathering forces from the various provinces, they prepared to strike down the Yamana. The Yamana father and son, their forces exhausted, retreated to Hōki. Yoshiakira then escorted the Emperor back to the capital in a return imperial progress.
In the spring of the third year (of Bunna, 1354), Nitta Yoshioki and Wakiya Yoshiharu fled from Kawamura Castle, and as the eastern provinces grew calm, Takauji appointed Hatakeyama Kunikiyo as senior retainer (karō) to Motouji and set him to guard the Kantō, while Takauji himself returned to the capital (Kyoto). Nikki Sakyō-no-taifu Yoriyuki was appointed to the post of Administrative Head (shitsuji-shoku) of the warrior government. Yoshiakira was dispatched to Harima Province to muster troops and strike down the Yamana. Upon hearing this, the Yamana welcomed Tadafuyu and made him their commander-in-chief. As a result, Tadafuyu joined the Southern Court's side and came into conflict with Takauji (his father).
