（土岐・佐々木はともに赦免されて）上洛した。閏四月十四日、洛中で騒動が起きた。人々は武具を帯びて、義満の花の御所へ馳せ集まった。（義満は）二階堂中務と松田丹後守を使者として、細川武蔵守頼之の屋敷へ遣わし、管領職を辞して四国へ赴くよう命じた。その弟・頼元らをはじめ、一族はみな勘気を蒙った。頼之は京を出る際に剃髪し、名を常久と改めた。翌日、禅僧・妙葩（春屋と号す）が丹後より帰洛した。この僧は夢窓の弟子である。義満の治世の初め、山門（延暦寺）が嗷訴して南禅寺を破却しようとした時、頼之の処置が遅々としているとして、妙葩は怒り、長らく丹州（丹後）に蟄居していたが、頼之が出京したことにより、妙葩は帰京したのであろう。同月、斯波義将を管領とした。六月、妙葩を南禅寺の住持とした。七月、義満が右大将に任じられたことへの拝賀において、山名民部義幸が侍所の当職として、随兵百騎を連れて先陣に供奉した。

(Both Toki and Sasaki were pardoned and) proceeded to the capital. On the fourteenth day of the intercalary fourth month, unrest broke out in the capital. People armed themselves and rushed to gather at Yoshimitsu's Hana no Gosho (Flower Palace). Yoshimitsu dispatched Nikaidō Nakatsukasa and Matsuda Tango no Kami as envoys to the residence of Hosokawa Musashi no Kami Yoriyuki, ordering him to resign from the post of kanrei (deputy shogun) and proceed to Shikoku. Yoriyuki's younger brother Yorimoto and other members of the Hosokawa clan all incurred the shogun's displeasure. When Yoriyuki departed from Kyoto, he shaved his head and changed his name to Tsunehisa. The following day, the Zen monk Myōha (known by the religious name Shun'oku) returned to the capital from Tango Province. This monk was a disciple of Musō (Soseki). At the beginning of Yoshimitsu's reign, when the Sanmon (Enryakuji) had staged a protest march (gōso) with the intent of destroying Nanzenji, Myōha had grown angry that Yoriyuki's handling of the matter was sluggish, and had been living in seclusion in Tanshū (Tango Province) for a long time. It seems that Myōha returned to Kyoto following Yoriyuki's departure from the capital. In the same month, Shiba Yoshimasa was appointed kanrei. In the sixth month, Myōha was appointed abbot of Nanzenji. In the seventh month, during the congratulatory ceremony for Yoshimitsu's appointment as Right Grand Commander (Udaishō), Yamana Mimbu Yoshiyuki, serving as the tōshoku of the Samurai-dokoro, accompanied the procession at the vanguard with a hundred cavalry.
