The Minister of the Left, Minamoto no Yoshimitsu, was additionally appointed as the Executive Administrator (shitsuji bettō) of the Retired Emperor's court (In).
In the twelfth month of the same year, the enthronement ceremony (sokui no rei) was performed. It is customary that when an emperor of our realm ascends the throne, there is a rite of transmission conducted within the Takamikura (the Imperial Throne) by the person holding the office of Shippei (regent or chief minister). In recent times, however, as warfare and civil disturbances had continued unabated, very few people remained who knew the details of these procedures. Because Yoshimoto (良基) had preserved and transmitted this knowledge well, he served as instructor (shihan) for five successive reigns—Emperor Kōmyō, Emperor Sukō, Emperor Go-Kōgon, Emperor Go-Enyū, and the current Emperor. The Nijō family took great pride in this distinction. Yoshimoto was a man of wide learning and talent, and wrote many works. Because of his close relations with the warrior houses, he collected not only his own family's transmitted texts but also the old records of many other families, and passed them down to his descendants. For this reason, both court ceremonial procedures and the precedents (kojitsu) of the warrior houses were frequently provided through the Nijō family.
In the first month of Eiwa 3 (1377), Yoshimitsu served as Inner Officiator (naiben) at the Tōka no Sechi-e (the New Year Stamping-Song Banquet). In the same month, Yoshimitsu was additionally appointed as head administrator (bettō) of the Shōgakuin and Junna-in academies, and was designated as the Chief of the Minamoto clan (Genji no chōja).
