両院の別当・源氏の長者は、鳥羽院の勅によって、代々久我家に補任されてきたが、これより武家が連綿として任ぜられることとなった。
六月、義満に准三宮の宣下があった。十月、義満の館へ行幸があった。十二月、主上の外祖父である三条前内府・公忠が薨去した。今年、義満は相国寺を造営し、春屋妙葩を開山とした。しかしながら、夢窓を推して開山に用いることとした。
至徳元年三月、義満は大将職を辞した。今年、南朝は元号を改めて元中とした。
二年八月、義満は春日に参詣した。今年秋、前管領・細川常久が阿波に宝冠寺を建てて、僧・絶海を開山とした。冬になって、義満は絶海を召して、等持寺に居らしめた。

The positions of head administrator (bettō) of the two academies and Chief of the Minamoto clan (Genji no chōja) had, by imperial decree of Retired Emperor Toba, been appointed generation after generation to the Koga family; but from this point forward, these positions were held in unbroken succession by the warrior houses.
In the sixth month, the decree conferring the rank of Jun-Sannomiya (Honorary Imperial Prince) was issued to Yoshimitsu. In the tenth month, an imperial visit (gyōkō) was made to Yoshimitsu's mansion. In the twelfth month, Sanjō no Saki no Naifu Kintada, the maternal grandfather of the reigning Emperor, passed away. This year, Yoshimitsu constructed Shōkokuji temple and appointed Shun'oku Myōha as its founding abbot (kaisan). However, Musō Soseki was ultimately designated as the founding abbot in his stead.
In the third month of Shitoku 1 (1384), Yoshimitsu resigned from the office of General (taishō). This year, the Southern Court changed its era name to Genchū.
In the eighth month of the second year (1385), Yoshimitsu made a pilgrimage to Kasuga Shrine. In the autumn of this year, the former Kanrei (deputy shogun), Hosokawa Tsunehisa, built Hōkanji temple in Awa Province and appointed the monk Zekkai as its founding abbot. As winter came, Yoshimitsu summoned Zekkai and had him take up residence at Tōjiji temple.
In the seventh month of the third year (1386), Yoshimitsu established the rankings of the Gozan (Five Mountains) temples. He designated Nanzenji as superior to the Five Mountains (i.e., above their ranking system), and bestowed a formal appointment document (kōjō) upon its abbot, Gidō Shūshin.
