（山名氏清は）一族の内のことであるから、他日赦免があり得るのであれば、合戦に及ばず、教訓を加えるべきである。もし誰が申し立てをしても、その罪の赦免があり得ないのであれば、誅伐すべきであると申し上げた。義満は、その罪を赦すべきではない、早く退治すべしと命じられた。氏清が出陣すると、時熙・氏幸は没落した。
（明徳）二年（1391）、細川常久が四国より召されて上洛した。義満は、政道をもとのように常久に任せられ、細川右京大夫頼元を、斯波義将に代わって管領とした。頼元は、常久の弟でありながら養子であった。あるいはこの時、常久が管領に再任したとも言われている。

(Yamana Ujikiyo said that) since (Tokihiro and Ujiyuki) were within the clan, if there was any possibility of a pardon at a later date, there was no need to resort to battle, and instead he should admonish them. However, if, no matter who appealed on their behalf, there was no possibility of their crimes being pardoned, then they should be punished by force. Yoshimitsu commanded that their crimes could not be forgiven and that they should be swiftly suppressed. When Ujikiyo set out (on campaign), Tokihiro and Ujiyuki fell from power.
In the second year (of Meitoku, 1391), Hosokawa Tsunehisa was summoned from Shikoku and came to the capital. Yoshimitsu entrusted the administration of government to Tsunehisa as before, and appointed Hosokawa Ukyō-no-taifu Yorimoto as *kanryō* (shogunal deputy) in place of Shiba Yoshimasa. Yorimoto was Tsunehisa's younger brother, though he had been adopted as his son. It is also said by some that at this time Tsunehisa was reappointed as *kanryō*.
In the tenth month, Yamana Ujikiyo requested that the autumn foliage of Uji be presented for Yoshimitsu's viewing. Having received permission, he set a date and made his preparations. Around that time, Tokihiro and Ujiyuki secretly came to the capital and offered apologies for their crimes. Yoshimitsu, intending to speak directly with Ujikiyo about this matter, set out for Uji.
