応永元年（1394）三月、源具通が右大臣を辞した。今出河前内府・公直が右大臣に任じられた。六月、一条内府・経嗣が左大臣に任じられた。徳大寺前左府・実時が太政大臣に任じられた。准大臣・源善成が内府（内大臣）に任じられた。九月、義満は日吉社へ参詣した。十一月、二条師嗣が関白を辞した。一条経嗣が関白となった。
十二月十七日、義満の嫡子・義持が九歳にて元服し、正五位下に叙され、左中将に任じられ、禁色・昇殿を許された。義満は征夷大将軍の職を義持に譲った。そもそも叙爵については、摂家は正五位下、その他は清華家といえども従五位下である。今回、義持の叙爵は摂家に准じたものである。同月、徳大寺実時が太政大臣を辞した。二十五日、義満が太政大臣に任じられた。享年三十七歳（時に三十七歳）。同日、今出河公直が右大臣を辞して、その子・大納言実直に譲った。源善……（次頁へ続く）

In the third month of the first year of Ōei (1394), Minamoto no Tomomiichi resigned as Minister of the Right. Former Minister of the Center (Naidaijin) Imaōgawa Kinjika was appointed Minister of the Right. In the sixth month, Ichijō Naidaijin Tsunetsugu was appointed Minister of the Left. Former Minister of the Left Tokudaiji Sanetoki was appointed Grand Minister of State (Daijō-daijin). Quasi-Minister (Jun-daijin) Minamoto no Yoshinari was appointed Naidaijin (Minister of the Center).
In the ninth month, Yoshimitsu made a pilgrimage to the Hiyoshi Shrine. In the eleventh month, Nijō Morotsugu resigned as Regent (Kampaku). Ichijō Tsunetsugu became the new Regent.
On the seventeenth day of the twelfth month, Yoshimitsu's eldest legitimate son Yoshimochi came of age (genpuku) at the age of nine. He was granted the Junior Fifth Rank Lower Grade, appointed as Middle Captain of the Left (Sachūjō), and was permitted the privileges of wearing forbidden colors (kinshoku) and ascending to the imperial audience hall (shōden). Yoshimitsu relinquished the title of Seii Taishōgun (Shogun) to Yoshimochi. Generally speaking, regarding the ceremony of rank bestowal (joshaku), members of the Sekke (the Five Regent Houses) receive the Junior Fifth Rank Lower Grade, while others, even those of the Seiga houses, receive only the Junior Fifth Rank Lower Grade of the outer rank. On this occasion, Yoshimochi's rank bestowal was conducted in accordance with the standard for the Sekke. In the same month, Tokudaiji Sanetoki resigned as Grand Minister of State. On the twenty-fifth day, Yoshimitsu was appointed Grand Minister of State, at the age of thirty-seven.
