(前頁より続き)定が右府(右大臣)を辞した。同月、義満は落飾(出家)した。享年三十八歳。道号は天山、法名は道義という。七月、前内府・源義成が左府(左大臣)に任じられた。公定が内府(内大臣)を辞した。八月、義成が官を辞して剃髪した。九月、公定が右府(右大臣)に任じられた。三条大納言・藤原公豊が内府に任じられた。十二月、三条大納言・実冬が内府に任じられた。この年、山名満幸が誅せられた。 応永三年(1396)二月、源具通が太政大臣を辞した。四月、源義持が正四位下に叙せられた。七月、洞院右府・公定が左府(左大臣)に任じられた。三条実冬が内府を辞した。大納言・藤原嗣房が内府に任じられた。九月、義持が参議に任じられた。同月、源道義(義満)が叡山(比叡山)に登った。その儀式は御幸(天皇の行幸)に准じられた。武家を「公方」と称するのは、このころからのことであろう。道義が参内する際、禁中(宮中)に便宜所が設けられた。これを……(次頁へ続く)

(Continued from the previous page) ...Sadanori resigned as Minister of the Right. In the same month, Yoshimitsu took the tonsure and entered Buddhist orders. He was thirty-eight years of age. His Buddhist sobriquet (dōgō) was Tenzan, and his Buddhist name (hōmyō) was Dōgi. In the seventh month, Former Naidaijin Minamoto no Yoshinari was appointed Minister of the Left. Kinsada resigned as Naidaijin. In the eighth month, Yoshinari resigned from his office and took the tonsure. In the ninth month, Kinsada was appointed Minister of the Right. Sanjō Dainagon Fujiwara no Kintomi was appointed Naidaijin. In the twelfth month, Sanjō Dainagon Sanefuyu was appointed Naidaijin. In this same year, Yamana Mitsuyuki was executed. In the second month of the third year of Ōei (1396), Minamoto no Tomomiichi resigned as Grand Minister of State. In the fourth month, Minamoto no Yoshimochi was conferred the rank of Shōshiinoge (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade). In the seventh month, Tōin Minister of the Right Kinsada was appointed Minister of the Left. Sanjō Sanefuyu resigned as Naidaijin. Dainagon Fujiwara no Tsugifusa was appointed Naidaijin. In the ninth month, Yoshimochi was appointed Sangi (Councillor). In the same month, Minamoto no Dōgi (Yoshimitsu) ascended Mount Hiei (Eizan). The ceremonial protocol for this was placed on a level equal to that of an imperial progress (miyuki). The practice of referring to the shogunate as "Kubō" (the Public Authority) is said to have originated around this time.
