（応永）十六年二月、近衛忠嗣が関白を辞した。三月、二条内府満基が関白に任じられ、左府に転じた。同月、朝鮮の使者が来日した。
六日、義持が石清水八幡宮に参詣し、伊勢太神宮へも参拝された。前管領・斯波義将が、大樹（将軍）の命を受けて、返書を朝鮮の執政に遣わし、先代に変わらず隣好（隣国との友好関係）を修めた。義将は私的に朝鮮版の一切経を求めた。
七月、義持が内大臣に任じられた。時に年齢二十四歳。同月、鎌倉の管領・源満兼が卒去した。年齢三十四歳。三勝光院と号した。その子・持氏が相続し、上杉憲定がこれを補佐した。上杉朝宗は、満兼を慕い、葬所よりそのまま直ちに世を遁れて閑居した。時に年齢七十歳であった。
十月、義持が三条坊門の館に移った。
十一月、義持が八幡に参籠すること一七日（七日間）。斯波義淳が、その父・義重に代わって管領となった。

In the second month of the sixteenth year (of Ōei, 1409), Konoe Tadatsugu resigned as kanpaku (regent). In the third month, Nijō Naidaijin Mitsumoto was appointed kanpaku and transferred to the position of Sadaijin (Minister of the Left). In the same month, envoys from Joseon (Korea) arrived.
On the sixth day, Yoshimochi visited the Iwashimizu Hachimangū shrine and also made a pilgrimage to the Grand Shrine of Ise. The former kanrei Shiba Yoshimasa, acting upon the orders of the Taiju (the Shōgun), sent a reply letter to the chief minister of Joseon, maintaining friendly neighborly relations unchanged from the previous administration. Yoshimasa personally requested a complete set of the Buddhist canon (Issaikyō) printed in Joseon.
In the seventh month, Yoshimochi was appointed Naidaijin (Minister of the Interior). He was twenty-four years of age at the time. In the same month, Minamoto no Mitsukane, the kanrei of Kamakura, passed away at the age of thirty-four. He was posthumously titled "Sanshōkōin." His son Mochiuji succeeded him, and Uesugi Norizada served as his assistant. Uesugi Tomomune, deeply mourning Mitsukane, retired from the world immediately upon leaving the burial site and lived in seclusion. He was seventy years of age at the time.
In the tenth month, Yoshimochi moved to his residence at Sanjō Bōmon.
In the eleventh month, Yoshimochi undertook a seven-day retreat at the Hachiman shrine. Shiba Atsushi (Yoshiatsushi) replaced his father Yoshishige as kanrei.
