院（花園院）自ら『風雅集』を撰された。後光厳（天皇）の詔によって、藤原為定が『新千載（和歌集）』を撰し、同時期に藤原為明が『新拾遺（和歌集）』を撰し、後円融（天皇）の勅によって、藤原為遠・藤原為重が『新後拾遺（和歌集）』を撰した。
今、『新続古今（和歌集）』を加えて、「二十一代集」と称する。
同月、義教が左府（左大臣）を辞した。九月、近衛右府房嗣が左府（左大臣）に任じられ、鷹司房平が右府（右大臣）に任じられ、西園寺大納言公名が内府（内大臣）に任じられた。
今年六月、鎌倉の持氏の長男・賢王丸の元服の沙汰があった。先例に従い、京都将軍の諱の一字を拝受されるべきであると、上杉安房守憲実が申したが、（持氏は）これを許容せず、遠く（源）義家の例に倣うべきであるとして、鶴岡八幡（宮）にて元服させ、義久と号した。憲実が来て祝賀すれば、即座に誅すべしと（持氏が）議した。憲実は病と称して、その弟の重方をして祝賀させた。これ（が後の争乱の伏線となった）……

The Retired Emperor Hanazono himself compiled the *Fūga Wakashū* [Collection of Elegance]. By the imperial edict of Emperor Go-Kōgon, Fujiwara no Tamesada compiled the *Shin Senzai (Wakashū)*; at the same time, Fujiwara no Tameaki compiled the *Shin Shūi (Wakashū)*; and by the imperial edict of Emperor Go-En'yū, Fujiwara no Tametō and Fujiwara no Tameshige compiled the *Shin Goshūi (Wakashū)*.
Now, with the addition of the *Shinzoku Kokin (Wakashū)*, these are collectively designated the "Twenty-One Anthologies" (Nijūichidaishū).
In the same month, Yoshinori resigned from the post of Minister of the Left (Safu). In the ninth month, Konoe Fusatsugu, the Minister of the Right (Ufu), was appointed Minister of the Left; Takatsukasa Fusahira was appointed Minister of the Right; and Saionji Dainagon Kinna was appointed Minister of the Center (Naifu / Naidaijin).
In the sixth month of this year [1438], there was a matter concerning the coming-of-age ceremony (genpuku) of Kenwōmaru, the eldest son of Kamakura (kubō) Mochiuji. Uesugi Awaji-no-kami Norizane submitted that, in accordance with precedent, (Kenwōmaru) ought to receive one character from the personal name (imina) of the Kyoto shogun. However, (Mochiuji) refused to accept this, and declaring instead that the distant precedent of (Minamoto no) Yoshiie should be followed, he had (Kenwōmaru) undergo the coming-of-age ceremony at Tsurugaoka Hachiman (Shrine), giving him the name Yoshihisa. (Mochiuji) deliberated that if Norizane came to offer congratulations, he should be immediately executed.
