（弟・兵庫頭清方を越後より鎌倉へ呼び寄せて、）管領職を譲った。六月、憲実は長寿院に赴き、持氏の位牌の前にて自害しようとした。家人がその刀を奪ったため、まだ死ねなかった。療養して傷が癒えた。十一月、憲実はついに山ノ内を出て、藤沢の道場へ入り、そこから伊豆の国清寺に閑居した。

...(Norizane summoned his younger brother Hyōgo-no-kami Kiyokata from Echigo to Kamakura) and transferred the position of Kanrei to him. In the sixth month, Norizane went to Chōjuin and attempted to commit suicide before the memorial tablet of Mochiuji. However, his retainers seized his sword before the act was complete, and he did not die. He recovered after receiving medical treatment. In the eleventh month, Norizane finally left Yamauchi and entered the religious establishment at Fujisawa, and from there went into seclusion at Kokokuji in the province of Izu.
In the spring of the twelfth year (of Eikyō, 1440), there were two sons of Mochiuji: his second son, known as Haruo, and his third son, known as Yasuo. When Mochiuji had committed suicide, these two had secretly fled and hidden themselves on Mount Nikkō in Shimotsuke Province. Ogasawara Masakatsu and others entered the mountains to search for them. The two brothers fled from Nikkō and sought the protection of Yūki Nakatsukasa-no-taifu Ujitomo. Ujitomo accepted them and sent his son, Shichirō Mitsuhisa, to escort Haruo and Yasuo into his castle. He then rallied those who had been allied with Mochiuji in former times, and many came together. Furthermore, troops were garrisoned at the castle of Koga to defend it.
