（義教は憲実に結城を攻めるよう命じた。）憲実は辞退した。清方が山ノ内の名代として、扇ヶ谷上杉修理大夫持朝とともに鎌倉を出て結城へ向け出陣した。京都からは上杉中務少輔持房が旗（御旗）を賜って下向した。憲実も義教の命を重んじ、伊豆より下野の国の小山まで出陣した。清方・持朝は関東の兵を率い、持房は京都の兵を率いて、七月より結城の城を囲んで合戦した。世間ではこれを「結城の戦場」と言う。
十月、近衛左府房嗣の子・教基が元服し、義教が加冠して、諱の字を授けられた。
嘉吉元年（1441）二月、畠山尾張守持国が従三位に叙せられた。管領職は、三家ともに四位をもって通例（先途）とするが、持国だけが三位に昇進した。斯波義重が従三位に叙せられた旨が系図にあると言うが、公卿補任には見えない。

(Yoshinori commanded Norizane to attack Yūki.) Norizane declined. Kiyokata, acting as Yamauchi's representative (nadai), set out from Kamakura together with Ōgigayatsu-Uesugi Shuri-no-tayū Mochitomo and advanced toward Yūki. From Kyoto, Uesugi Nakatsukasa-no-shōyū Mochifusa descended to the east, having been bestowed with the (shogunal) battle standard. Norizane, also taking the commands of Yoshinori seriously, advanced from Izu as far as Oyama in Shimotsuke Province. Kiyokata and Mochitomo led the Kantō forces, while Mochifusa led the Kyoto forces. From the seventh month onward, they besieged the castle of Yūki and fought. Popularly, this is known as the "Battle of Yūki" (Yūki no Senjō).
In the tenth month,教基 (Noriki), son of Konoe Left Minister (Sadaijin) Fusatsugu, came of age (genpuku). Yoshinori performed the cap-crowning ceremony (kakan) and bestowed upon him a character from his own personal name.
In the second month of the first year of Kakitsu (1441), Hatakeyama Owari-no-kami Mochikuni was appointed to Junior Third Rank (Jushii). It is customary for all three (Kanrei) families to hold Fourth Rank as their established precedent, but Mochikuni alone was promoted to Third Rank. It is said that the appointment of Shiba Yoshishige to Junior Third Rank appears in genealogical records, but it does not appear in the Kugyō Bunin.
