[Continuing from the previous page: Yamana Mochitōyo, Nori]kiyo, and Noriyuki broke through the defenses of Harima Province, and Mitsusuke committed suicide. He was sixty-one years of age. Asaka and many other retainers below him also perished. Noriyasu attempted to flee to the provincial governor (kokushi) of Ise for refuge, but as the governor did not consent to aid him, Noriyasu took his own life. He was nineteen years of age. The assistant master of horse (Samanojo) fled to Tsukushi (Kyushu) and is said to have crossed over to Joseon (Korea). Mitsusuke's severed head was displayed at the prison gate (gokumon). Harima Province was granted to Yamana Mochitōyo, Mimasaka to Norikiyo, and Bizen to Noriyuki. Mochitōyo shaved his head and took the Buddhist name Sōzen. As the Dazai Shōni Yoshiyori failed to respond to calls for participation in the campaign against Mitsusuke, Ōuchi-no-suke Mochisuke was ordered to attack him. Yoshiyori was defeated in battle and retreated to Tsushima. Ōuchi ultimately seized the Shōni clan's territories. Since the Meitoку Rebellion, in which Yamana Ujikiyo had been slain, and thereafter the Battle of Izumi-Sakai, in which Ōuchi Yoshihiro had been slain, both clans had somewhat declined—but from this point onward, the Yamana and Ōuchi clans once again rose to great power.
In the eleventh month, Saionji Kimmei resigned from the post of Naidaijin (Minister of the Interior/Palace). Kazanin Dainagon Mochitada was appointed Naidaijin.
In the second year [of Kakitsu], eighth month, the Kanrei (Deputy Shogun) Hosokawa Ukyō-no-daibu Mochiyuki, who had taken Buddhist vows under the name Jōki, passed away. He was forty-three years of age.
