（嘉吉）三年正月、義勝は従四位下に叙された。
五月、朝鮮の使者が来朝した。管領・畠山徳本は、「彼らは貢職（朝貢）を口実として、商売のために来ているのであろう。将軍は幼少であるから、諸国に無益な費用をかけることはならない」として、兵庫から追い返した。（ただし、）普広院（足利義教）の弔礼のために来朝したとの申し出があったため、京へ入ることを許し、斯波千代徳をして諸雑用の費用を支給させた。
六月、朝鮮人が室町殿へ参上し、義勝に謁見した。
七月二十一日、征夷大将軍・左中将・源義勝が早世した。わずか十歳であった。この人は幼少ながらも馬に乗ることを好んでいたが、誤って落馬されたと言い伝えられている。治世三年。慶雲院と号する。左大臣・従一位を贈られた。畠山徳本らは、義勝の弟・義成を立てて主君とした。時に八歳であった。
九月二十三日の夜、凶族が内裏に乱入した。一手は清涼殿に上り、一手は局町より攻め入って火を放った。長刀を持った者が、玉体（天皇の御身）を犯さんとしたが、目（以下次頁へ続く）……

In the first month of the third year (of Kakitsu, 1443), Yoshikatsu was granted the rank of Junior Fourth Rank Lower Grade (Jushii-no-ge).
In the fifth month, an envoy from Joseon Korea arrived in Japan. The Kanrei (Deputy Shogun), Hatakeyama Tokuhon, declared: "They are surely coming for the purposes of trade, using tribute missions as a pretext. As the Shogun is still a young child, it would be wasteful to burden the various provinces with unnecessary expenses," and turned them away from Hyōgo. However, as they presented the matter as a visit of condolence for Fukōin (the late Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori), they were permitted to enter the capital, and Shiba Chiyotoku was appointed to provide for their various needs and expenses.
In the sixth month, the Koreans proceeded to the Muromachi residence and had an audience with Yoshikatsu.
On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, Seii Taishōgun, Sakon'e-no-chūjō, Minamoto no Yoshikatsu died young, at the age of merely ten years. Although still a child, it is said that he was fond of horse-riding, and it is handed down by tradition that he died as a result of accidentally falling from his horse. His reign lasted three years. He was given the posthumous Buddhist name Keiunin. He was posthumously granted the titles of Minister of the Left (Sadaijin) and Senior First Rank (Jūichii). Hatakeyama Tokuhon and the others installed Yoshikatsu's younger brother Yoshinari as their new lord. He was eight years of age at the time.
On the night of the twenty-third day of the ninth month, a band of ruffians (kyōzoku) broke into the Imperial Palace. One group climbed up into the Seiryōden (the Emperor's residential hall), and another forced their way in from the Tsubonemachi quarter and set fire to it.
