The castle of Kintaiji fell. In the eighth month, Konoe Udaijin (Minister of the Right) Norimoto passed away. He was forty years of age. The former Naidaijin of the Tokudaiji clan, Kimitomo, was appointed Udaijin.
In the fourth year, fourth month, Ichijō Norihusa resigned from the position of Kampaku (Imperial Regent). Nijō Mochimichi was again appointed Kampaku. During Norihusa's tenure in office, he had not received the imperial decree granting him precedence of the first rank (ichiza no senji). Therefore, although there was an imperial edict declaring that after his resignation he should be seated below the former Sadaijin (Minister of the Left) of the Sanjō clan, Sanekazu, Norihusa's father Kaneyoshi (Ichijō Kaneyoshi) presented a petition to the throne and had Norihusa seated above Sanekazu. Kaneyoshi was sixty-two years of age at that time. Because Norihusa had already served as Kampaku, Kaneyoshi came to be referred to as "the Taikō of the Ichijō clan." A person who lives long enough to see both himself pass through the office of Kampaku and his own child also become Kampaku is called "Taikō." In the same month, Hatakeyama Yoshimasa took the castle of Takeyama and entered Mt. Kōya. Masanaga pursued and attacked, and Yoshimasa fled and hid in the mountains of Yoshino. In the twelfth month, Masanaga returned to the capital. Originally, Yamana Sōzen had declared, together with Hosokawa Katsumoto, that they would support Masanaga and drive out Yoshimasa, but owing to Hosokawa's matter with the Akamatsu clan…
