[Minamoto no Michihisa] resigned from the office of Ufū (Minister of the Right). Nijō Dainagon Masatsugu was appointed Ufū. In the second month, Fujiwara no Noritsue resigned from the office of Naidaijin (Minister of the Interior). Saionji Dainagon Sanetō was appointed Naidaijin. In the fourth month, Shiba Yoshikado and Shiba Yoshitoshi contested the headship (katoku) of the Shiba clan. Prior to this, the Shiba clan's hereditary lord Chiyotoku had died young without an heir. An attempt was made to name Yoshitoshi as head of the clan, but the clan's retainers — the Kai, Asakura, and Oda — did not agree. Therefore, through the mediation of Ise no Kami Sadachika, Shibukawa Yoshikado was installed as head of the Shiba clan. Yoshitoshi became a rōnin (masterless samurai) and resided in Suō Province.
