九年（文明九年・1477）正月、義尚は正三位に叙された。十一月、山名宗全の一党の大名たちは皆京を去り、それぞれの国々へ下向した。義視は美濃へ赴いた。洛中は静謐となった。畠山政長が管領となった。応仁（の乱が始まって）より、ここに至るまで十一年に及んだ。これより諸大名はみな自らの分国を押領して、（将軍・）武将の威勢は衰えた。
十年（文明十年・1478）、関東において、足利成氏と上杉顕定が和睦した。成氏は古河へ帰った。顕定は山ノ内（上杉）家を継いで、上野の平井に城を構え、八カ国を支配した。この時、扇谷上杉（の当主）を修理大夫定正といった。その家老を太田道真といい、その子を道灌といった。彼らは武蔵国に住していた。太田父子の謀略によって、関東の武士の中には山ノ内（上杉）に背いて扇谷（上杉）に従う者が多くなった。これより両上杉は不和となり、合戦に及ぶことになった。

In the ninth year [of Bunmei, 1477], in the first month, Yoshihisa was appointed to the Senior Third Rank. In the eleventh month, the daimyō who were partisans of Yamana Sōzen all departed the capital and returned to their respective provinces. Yoshimi proceeded to Mino Province. The capital [Rakuchū] became peaceful. Hatakeyama Masanaga became the Deputy [Kanryō]. From the Ōnin [War] until this point, eleven years had elapsed. From this time onward, the various daimyō each seized control of their allotted domains, and the authority of the military commanders declined.
In the tenth year [of Bunmei, 1478], in the Kantō region, Ashikaga Shigeuji and Uesugi Akisada made peace. Shigeuji returned to Koga. Akisada succeeded to the headship of the Yamanouchi house, established a castle at Hiroi in Kōzuke Province, and exercised authority over eight provinces. At this time, the head of the Ōgigayatsu Uesugi was called Shurishidaibu Sadamasa. His chief retainer was called Ōta Dōshin, and Dōshin's son was called Dōkan. They resided in Musashi Province. Through the stratagems of the Ōta father and son, many of the warriors of the Kantō turned away from the Yamanouchi [Uesugi] and came to follow the Ōgigayatsu [Uesugi]. From this time, the two Uesugi houses fell into discord and came to engage in armed conflict.
