In the sixteenth year [of Eishō, 1519], eighth month, Hōjō Sōun died. In the ninth month, Yoshitane was appointed Bettō [Head Administrator] of the Genjichōja [Hereditary Head of the Minamoto Clan] and of the Junwa-Shōgaku-in [two imperial academies]. In the seventeenth year [of Eishō, 1520], second month, Hosokawa Sumimoto and Hosokawa Takakuni fought over power, and Takakuni was defeated and retreated to Ōmi Province. Takakuni was the son of Hosokawa Mimbu Masaharu. It is said that there had been an agreement for him to become the adopted son of [Hosokawa] Masamoto. In the fifth month, Takakuni once again entered the capital. In the sixth month, Sumimoto died. As a result of this, Takakuni wielded great power. He built a castle at Amagasaki in Settsu Province and made it a stronghold. In the first year of Daiei [1521], third month, Kazanin Masanaga resigned as Shōkoku [Daijō-daijin, Grand Minister of State]. On the twenty-third day of the same month, His Majesty [the Emperor] performed the ceremony of Imperial enthronement for the first time. Since the Ōnin Disturbance, both the court nobles and the warrior houses had fallen into decline, and thus more than twenty years had passed since the imperial succession [senzō], causing the great ceremony to be repeatedly postponed. According to one account, it was through the efforts of the Lay Monk of the Sanjō Shōyōin that the enthronement ceremony was at this time——
