In the second month of the second year [of Daiei, 1522], Yoshiharu was granted the rank of Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade [Jūshii-ge], appointed to the Council of State [Sangi], and concurrently appointed as Middle Captain of the Left [Sachūjō]. In the third month of the third year [1523], the Regent of the Nijō clan, Tatsufusa, resigned as Safu [Minister of the Left]. Tokudaiji Naifu [Minister of the Center] Kintane was appointed Safu. Ōinomikado Tsunenao resigned as Ufu [Minister of the Right]. Konoe Dainagon [Senior Counselor] Ueki was appointed Ufu. Koga Dainagon Minamoto no Michikoto was appointed Naifu [Minister of the Center]. In the fourth month, the former Shōgun, Dainagon Minamoto no Yoshitane, passed away at a place in Awa Province called Muya, at the age of fifty-eight. He was posthumously given the Buddhist name Eirin-in Gonzan. News of this man's death was not publicly announced for some time, and it was only after several years that it came to be known by rumor. As Awa and Awaji were the domains of the Hosokawa clan, and given that Yoshitane had longstanding enmity with the Hosokawa and Miyoshi clans, the circumstances of his final moments are suspicious. Nevertheless, it is said that his descendants continued to reside within Awaji and Awa. In the same year, Hosokawa Takakuni dispatched a trading vessel to Great Ming [China]. A man called Sō Sokkei [Song Suqing] was designated as the envoy. Sokkei was originally a Chinese man. He had crossed over to Japan, formed ties with Hosokawa Masamoto, had an audience with Hōjūin-dono [Ashikaga Yoshizumi], and [the text continues on the next page]...
