In the seventh year [1538], Ujiyasu, the son of Hōjō Ujitsuna of Odawara in Sagami Province, with a force of eight thousand troops, launched a night attack against the combined army of eighty thousand men belonging to Yamanouchi Uesugi Noriyuki and Ōgigayatsu Uesugi Tomosada at the castle town of Kawagoe in Musashi Province, and won a great victory. Tomosada was slain, and Noriyuki fled to Hirai in Kōzuke Province. From this point, both Uesugi clans declined, and the Kantō region submitted to Ujiyasu. Ujiyasu took Koga Gosho [the Koga Palace lord] Harujii as his brother-in-law, bringing him under Hōjō influence. Harujii's kinsman Yorisumi was made to reside at Kitsureakwa. In the sixth month of the eighth year [1539], the followers of the Miyoshi clan rose up in revolt, and Kyoto fell into a state of turmoil. The shōgun Yoshiharu proceeded to the village of Yase. Kutsuki Uetsuna accompanied and guarded him. In the eighth month, Ichijō Dainagon Fusatō was appointed Naidaijin [Minister of the Interior]. Fusatō was the son of Ichijō Fusaie of Tosa Province.
