His position as Dazai Daini [Senior Assistant Governor-General of Dazaifu] remained as before. That same year, Shogun Yoshiharu advanced to Sakamoto, and Sasaki Sadayori and others accompanied him. In the second month of the eleventh year [of Tenbun, 1542], Konoe Kanpaku [Chancellor] Taneka submitted a memorial [jōhyō] [to abdicate his office]. In the third month, Takatsukasa Minister of the Left Tadafuyu was appointed Kanpaku [Chancellor]. In the intercalary third month, Tadafuyu resigned as Minister of the Left [Sadaijin]. Ichijō Minister of the Right Fusatō was transferred to Minister of the Left, and former Naidaijin Nishisanjō Kinjō was appointed Minister of the Right [Udaijin]. In the spring of that year, Ōuchi-no-suke Yoshitaka personally led his forces and set out toward Izumi Province, attacking Amago Haruhisa's Toda Castle. Suō Owari-no-kami Harukata and Mōri Motonari both followed him. The castle was formidable, and in the fifth month, the Ōuchi forces were defeated. Motonari served as the rearguard, and therefore the Amago forces were unable to pursue them. Yoshitaka had no children of his own and had adopted a son of the Tosa Ichijō lord, calling him Shin-no-suke. This adopted son was killed in the battle. Thereafter, Motonari at times [ventured into] the mountains of Suō... [continued on next page]
