Nagayoshi and his allies installed Jirō Ujitsuna, the son of the late Hosokawa Takakuni, raised the armies of Yamato and Kawachi Provinces, and entrenched themselves in Nakajima Castle. [It should be noted that] Nagayoshi was the grandson of Kиun and the son of Kaiun.
In the sixth month, Sōzan departed from Enami and advanced to Eguchi. Nagayoshi, together with his younger brother Sōgō Mimbu Katsumasa, attacked Miyake Castle and also struck at Eguchi, whereupon Sōzan was killed in battle and Harumoto slipped out of the castle and secretly entered the capital. Sasaki Sadayori's son, Sakyo-no-daibu Yoshikata, had marched out of Ōmi with a force of over thirty thousand men and encamped within the capital, but upon hearing of Harumoto's defeat, he withdrew to Ōmi. As a result, the former Shōgun Yoshiharu, the current Shōgun Yoshiteru [Yoshifuyu], together with Hosokawa Harumoto and those below them, fled the capital and made their way to Sakamoto.
In the seventh month, Miyoshi Nagayoshi entered the capital, conducted an inspection tour, and returned to Settsu Province. Matsunaga Danjō Hisahide was appointed as caretaker [guardian] of Kyoto in his absence.
In the twelfth month, Yoshiharu fell ill. In this same year, Oda Bingo [no Kami] of Owari Province— [continued on next page]
